There
are many systems of astrology, among them the Vedic Astrology (Called
Jyotish) holds a different place for it's
nature and structure. It is very much different from other astrology systems.
It is
the pure spiritual astrology, which involves the concept of Karma
(actions performed), rebirth and other basic facts about
the creation and explains how planets control our lives and affect
us all. In Hinduism it is believed that this knowledge was given
by the Gods and then passed down through an unbroken Guru-Sisya
(Teacher-disciple) tradition as oral teaching.
The concepts of Vedic Deities, Karma-phal
(Result of the actions
performed) and rebirth are solely attached to Vedic Astrology.
These are the core facts of destiny and fortune, and very much
necessary in order to make predictions. But they are not focused up on in any other astrology.
That is why other Astrology systems are not much enriched with depth and spirituality and so, their predicting
ability is no match to Vedic Astrology most of the times. To make
predictions you would have to have a good knowledge about how the
'system' of fate, destiny etc. is working and how events are
getting materialized as per the planets' positions. That is why
the concept of Karma, Deities is a must in this regard.
A very important topic, remedial
measure is also avoided in Western Astrology. What is the point
of knowing a future mishap unless the remedy is told? Would I ever
go to see the doctor unless there were healing ways? All the students of Vedic Astrology know
and repeatedly see that the predictions of Vedic Astrology can not
be avoided by simple efforts, as they are REAL.
The planets control our fate and everything because they are the
incarnation of the Lord Vishnu (The God Almighty) to bring us the result of actions
we perform. Thus, Predictive Astrology can never be discussed without the
discussion of Gods, karma etc. So, Western astrology
can not answer questions like, "How do planets
control or affect our luck, destiny?"
The reasons for planets affecting our health, body and mind can be
scientifically shown to some degree, but what is about luck and
destiny, predicting future? Planets must have the authority from
the creator to control our destiny. Otherwise, how can they? You
can not have full control over anything unless you are given the
authority - so simple and clear truth. And Vedic Astrology answers
this straightly, while Western Astrology, avoiding the core
concepts of fate and destiny, becomes unable to have a good
predicting ability.

The science of Vedic Astrology can not be
avoided when the creation is discussed from Vedic point of
view. Planets are the core part of the creation to
maintain the cycle of rebirth to give us the result of our
actions. Similarly when Vedic Astrology is discussed,
discussion of the Vedic Deities, karma, rebirth follows
soon.
In the right it is Lord Ganesha, a widely worshipped Vedic
God, who is believed to remove the obstacles and bestow
progress and happiness. |

Western Astrology does not have those powerful, unique features
Vedic Astrology uses for predictions. Like Dashas, Yogas, divisional
charts, relationships between planets, sensible aspects, special
ascendants and many more which can not be named here so quickly.
On the other hand, most of the techniques and concepts of Western
Astrology are behaviour-oriented, analyzing how a person might
behave or react in a particular situation. That is why, Western Astrology,
can define the psychology, nature, compatibility of natives with
great success, but not when it comes about predictions. In Western
Astrology, every prediction is just a
mere 'Possibility' which can be avoided by simple effort. This
actually shows the inefficacy of Western Astrology in making
predictions.

An illustration of the basic nature of houses
Vedic concepts are proved true
by science
Well, Vedic Astrology works with nine planets mainly. The Sun, the
Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, North Node (Rahu) and
South Node (Ketu). Here the Sun and the Moon are not planets, but
in Vedic Astrology they are called that way in general sense.
Anyway, there are two planets which are not 'Material planets';
And they are the nodes of the Moon.
In Vedic scripture it has been mentioned that Rahu and Ketu are
the body parts of a demon that chase the Sun and the Moon with
great anger of revenge. It has been mentioned that Rahu is the
severed head while Ketu is the rest of the body. When Rahu can
reach the Sun, it devours Sun with great anger, and then it
eclipse occurs. But since Rahu is only a cut-off head, Sun soon
gets rid of him, and eclipse ends.
This phenomena described in the divine scriptures proves to be
true when we view it from a scientific angle. Actually, Rahu and
Ketu are the points in the space where the plane of the Moon's
orbit intersects or crosses the ecliptic. (Earth's orbit around
the sun.) And the fact is that, an eclipse only happens when the
Sun or the Moon comes on the point of the intersection, i.e. Rahu
or Ketu. So it means that even from the scientific view or fact,
Rahu and Ketu are 'Devouring' the Sun and the Moon and causing
eclipse this way. But thousands years of this discovery, Vedic
Astrology described about them, who devour the Sun and the Moon
with tremendous anger and causes eclipse this way. So it proves
that the phenomena described in Vedic Scriptures are
scientifically true and fact, though they sound pretty amazing to
hear.
Today we know that
the simple, colourless sunbeam actually has seven colours,
which make up the word VIBGYOR. It was discovered by Sir
Newton. But anyway, even before thousand years of his
birth, it was described it Vedic Astrology that the Sun is
a strong God who rides on a chariot pulled by seven
horses. (Yes, SEVEN!) And there are many facts in Vedic
Astrology and other branches of knowledge which will make
you amazed as they have so close relation with our
reality.

As an example, a Vedic scholar named Sayana
(1315-1387), wrote in his commentary of Rig Veda, that the Sun
moves 2,202 yojanas in half a nimesha. Here, yojana is a unit of
measuring distance, and equals to nine miles. Nimesha is a unit of
measuring time period and equals to 16/75.3 seconds. And so -
| 2,202 yojana per
half a nimesha
|
= (2,202 X 9)
miles per (1/2 X 16/75.3) second
= 19,818 miles per 0.106241699 second
= 186,536.925 miles per second |
So Sayana is saying
that the Sun moves 186,536 miles per second. This really does not
prove true, but does this figure 186,536 look familiar some way?
Yes, it is very near to the speed of light, the well accepted
value of the speed of light is 186,300 miles per second. So is
Sayana talking about the speed of Sun, or is he actually talking
about the speed of light coming from Sun? [Sun is the main source
of light for us.] If we think for a while then the answer becomes
clear.
It has to be noted here
that Sayana did not directly tell that it was the speed of light.
Why? Actually this is 'coding the knowledge' to make sure that it
reaches the hand of only those who sincerely seek it through
devotion, practice and research. Much of the knowledge has been
coded like this, such as Maharishi Jaimini's Upadesha Sutras is a
good example of coded knowledge.
In Hinduism it is believed that
Jyotish as well as some other branches of knowledge were
received from their Gods. It amazes me because if you study then
you will see that Vedic Astrology is completely different from any
other astrology system. And anyone who knows about it will realize
that Vedic Astrology is something can never be developed by any
research or anything - there must be some divine source we got it
from. The basic structure, methods of prediction, ideas involved
are totally of a different nature, beyond the reach of any human
discovery. Also some other branches of knowledge the ancient
scholars had grip of make us think that did they really discover
and learn these from themselves, without any modern instruments
etc., or was there any divine source behind all these?
