Gayatri Mantra
(Om) Bhur bhuva svaha
Tat shavitur varenyam
Bhargo devashya dhimahi
Dhiyo yonah prachodayat
(Download
Audio)
"gayatri chhandasham aham" - Lord Krishna says in
the Gita. When the Supreme Lord refers to the Gayatri to explain
himself, the dignity and the power of the mantra can be guessed
easily. Gayatri Mantra is the most sacred among all
mantras; It is the universal prayer to inspire and illuminate our wisdom and intellect, in
order to remove darkness and realize the ultimate supreme
truth. This mantra removes the deficiency of wisdom and
leads us to the ultimate enlightened path. Even Gods like
Lord Brahma meditate up on and adore this mantra. The mantra
can be translated this way -
"Om - We meditate up on the Spiritual luster of the Supreme Divinity,
who is the Lord of the physical, astral and heavenly realm of existence.
May he illuminate our intellect." |

|
Gayatri Mantra is called 'Veda Mata', means the mother of the
Vedas. It is the essence of Vedas. The Gayatri Mantra protects the chanter and can bless him
with all sort of blessings.
It destroys one's sins and cleans the heart, as taking bath in
Ganges cleanses our body. Gayatri is personified as
a Goddess, having five faces, and a darshan (sight) of these five
faces may remove five great sins of the devotee. She signifies
Dushta Nigraha (killing evil) and Sishta Paripalana (Protecting the
good) by looking at ten directions. The four Vedas are represented
by her four heads and the another head represents the God almighty himself.

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra would literally mean, 'The Great
Mantra to Conquer Mortality'.
This mantra addresses to Lord Shiva and works very well for problems
like mental & physical diseases, pains, bondages etc. Unfortunately, I came across some audios
of it on the web with totally wrong pronunciations
and these CDs are being sold. That is why
I suggest that please follow the pure pronunciation as given in the
Devanagri Script above. You
can also download the audio made available.
It is always difficult
to provide a complete literal translation of a mantra, for the
differences between the structure of languages. Still, the mantra
would translate like this -
Om
- we sing the
praise of The Three-Eyed (Lord Shiva), who is fragrant and nourishes
all beings. I am suffering from bondage and deadly diseases, may
He grant me the life renewing nectar to release me from death, for the sake of final
liberation.
This mantra is a prayer to Lord Shiva to save from death, it actually means
both premature death in this material world through accidents, diseases etc., and also
the deaths caused by taking birth over and over, thus it prays for
final liberation, i.e. Moksha.
In the beginning, nothing
existed. Neither the earth or the heaven, nor the space in between. The 'non-being'
having decided to 'be' became a spirit and said, "Let me become!" So
soon he warmed himself and became born fire, he then became born light.
Shiva is the non-created creator of all - he knows all, is the pure consciousness, the creator of time - all knowing, and all powerful. He rules the guna (quality) of Tamas, the tendency toward disintegration and annihilation. Whatever has a beginning surely has to have an end. Nothing can ever escape from the phase of destruction. And it is destruction that causes further creation. Therefore, destruction is actually the ultimate reason for creation.
Lord Shiva means that Almighty,
that Ultimate Divinity who can destroy anything and everything by his Dance of Destruction (Tandava) and he, who wanders through the cosmos giving birth to all forms of life and existence. He creates new beings and new worlds through the rhythm of his dance, the sound of his drum, the postures of his yoga and the drops of his scattered semen. He is the lord of the souls and nature, and also of all the conditions of the nature. From him comes the transmigration of life and liberation, bondage in time and freedom in eternity. He is the embodiment of all the opposite qualities same time.
For some he is BholeyNath the innocent beneficent and for others he is Bhairava the awesome destroyer.
For some he is Rudra the furious, and for others, he is the silent Dakshinamurti, Guru of all Gurus. He is at the same time Shiva the ascetic and Kameshwara the erotic. And above all he is Maha Deva the Great Lord. As Nataraja, the Lord of Dance, he dances the dance of creation, the dance of destruction and of solace and liberation.
Ultimately, Lord Shiva
means the death of death - i.e., the endless, eternal stable existence. Beneath his left foot, ignorance is crushed and from his head springs the
life giving sacred Ganges river. His mount is the mighty white bull and the ferocious tiger has given it's skin to gird his loins. His are the moon, the lotus, the drum and the trident. Deadly serpents coil around his limbs and from his right hand springs the promise of release.
Hare Rama-Krishna Maha Mantra
Hare Rama, Hare Rama
Rama Rama, Hare Hare
Hare
Krishna, Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
This is the Maha
Mantra which addresses to Lord Krishna, The Supreme Lord, The Lord
of all Lords, The Ultimate Lord. Lord Krishna was
the eighth incarnation, and the most perfect and complete
incarnation of Lord Vishnu - who is the Lord (of everything). Lord
Vishnu is the author of this Universe. He is like the sky - all
pervading, and above all. At the beginning of Brihat Parasara Hora
Sastra, Maharishi Parasara explains -
"Lord
Vishnu, coupled with Shri Shakti, rules over the three worlds. Coupled with
Bhu Shakti, He is Brahma causing the universe. Coupled with Nil Shakti, He is Shiva, destroying the
universe."
Lord Vishnu rests in
the casual ocean, and when he exhales, innumerable universes come
out with his breath, and when he inhales, they disappear into him.
Lord Vishnu is the
sustainer of this universe, so he takes a form called Avatar
(incarnation) to come and save this world whenever required. He
took the most adorable incarnation as Lord Krishna to kill the
evils and re-establish Dharma. Most of the avatars do a few
functions, but it is Lord Krishna who has performed so many
functions in so many fields. Each of his actions are meaningful
with divine meanings and teachings. He mastered over all the sixty
four arts (Kalas), and taught Yoga, Bhakti and
Vedanta. He is the Param Guru (The Ultimate Teacher) of Bhagavat
Gita.
|
Lord Krishna has made it
clear in Bhagavat Gita that any God a person worships with devotion, he actually
worships Lord Krishna (i.e. Lord Vishnu), but in a wrong way only. Thus is it is
actually understood and realized by an enlightened person that one
who worships Lord Krishna never requires to worship anyone else,
and it is the direct prayer when the person prays to Lord
Krishna. People who worship other Gods than Lord Krishna are less
intelligent and has less spiritual understanding. Krishna assures
that even when a mere flower is offered to him with love and
devotion, he will accept it. People who will worship him will be
blessed to live with him in the most blissful state and attain the
highest possible goal of a soul.

Some other Mantras
Mantras
have great power in them, in the vibration created while uttered. Not
any mantra is appropriate for anyone. An
appropriate mantra is a great blessing whereas an inappropriate mantra can
cause unbelievable misfortune. There are certain methods and ways in the
horoscope to find out which mantra would be suitable for you - such
as the syllables, starting letters, sequence of letters and
many more. These have to be carefully checked and only then a mantra
should be suggested, or otherwise a mantra can be 'rectified' according to
your horoscope then given to you.
The topic is very vast and beyond the scope of this page. So please get your horoscope checked by a knowledgeable Vedic Astrologer for this. Also there are a strict procedure to be followed to chant the mantra. Please note that chanting an inappropriate mantra, or chanting a mantra in a wrong way can lead to very difficult and complicated
situations. Thanks.
